The ICU RN Transition Program helps new and experienced nurses become safe, competent intensive care clinicians.
Program Eligibility Requirements*
- Experienced RN: One year of RN experience
- Current California RN license
- New Graduate RN: Experience required for the cohort will be listed in the individual job requisition at the time of posting
- ACLS from the American Heart Association
- BLS for Health Care Provider from the American Heart Association
*New graduate RN positions are not guaranteed for each cohort. Individual job requisition will indicate if the program is open to new graduate RNs.
Program Duration
- 12 weeks for experienced RNs
- 20 weeks for new graduate RNs
Curriculum
This program fosters growth and learning through:.
- A hybrid program consisting of online module didactics offered by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and classroom application led by Scripps ICU RNs and other expert speakers
- Hands-on lab and simulation exercises
- Literature review and research assignments
- Precepted and mentored clinical experiences
- An in-depth review of physiologic systems including pulmonary, cardiovascular/hemodynamics, neuroscience, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, hematologic, and endocrine systems. Topics to support ICU RN role development also include EBP, QI, ethics, palliative care, social work, self-care, and resiliency
