Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest.

Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista. 

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego’s campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).

Job Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – Part Time
Schedule: 48 hours per 2-week pay period | 12-hour Day shifts
Location: Scripps Mercy Float Pool – Between Mercy San Diego and Chla Vista

This position is eligible for New Hire Incentives up to $2K

Supporting excellence in patient and family-centered care, the Site Based Float Pool provides critical nursing support to our Definitive Observation Units at the Scripps Mercy San Diego and Chula Vista hospitals. Thriving in an environment where teamwork and leadership support is strong, our nurses enjoy the ability to float to different units and have flexibility with their work schedules.  As a DOU nurse working in the Float Pool at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego and Chula Vista, you’ll join a team of skilled medical professionals who provide superior health services in a caring environment.

We invite you to join our highly engaged team of Registered Nurses in our Definitive Observation Units (DOU) responsible for providing direct patient care within the scope of his/her practice.

Patient care includes:

  • Assessment, planning and implementing a plan of care
  • Evaluating patients’ progress towards expected outcomes.
  • With quality patient and family-centered care in mind, the RN takes primary responsibility for the patients’ care as delivered by the Care Team under his/her supervision.
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care.

This role requires you to float within our Scripps Mercy San Diego and Chula Vista campuses.  Floating to DOU, PCU, Stepdown and MS/Tele/Trauma will be required.

In order to remain eligible for your retention incentive the following criteria must be met:

  • Must remain in original hired FTE Status and Shift (if specified in offer letter)
  • Must remain in original department/specialty
  • Must remain in original Job Title
  • Transfers to other locations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may result in forfeiting remaining incentive bonus unless specifically noted in your offer letter.

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered Nursing Degree from an Accredited School of Nursing
  • Active California RN license
  • American Heart Association BLS and ACLS Healthcare Provider Certifications
  • 1 year of recent adult DOU/PCU/Stepdown experience
  • Must be willing and able to float to other units
  • Be able to speak, read and following instructions in English
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate positive behaviors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • NIHSS certification

Position Pay Range: $59.16-$85.68/hour

Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.
