As part of the Scripps Health pharmacy team, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians provide a broad range of clinical services at our sites and work collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other health care team members to deliver high-quality, efficient services to patients and staff. The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist –

· In collaboration with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other members of the perioperative care team, the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist – Operating Room serves as a clinical and operational resource for medication-related care in the operating room and perioperative environment.

· This position provides expert consultation and response to drug information questions from the interdisciplinary team

· The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist facilitates the review and approval of medication orders for appropriateness, safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness, with a focus on the perioperative patient population. Responsibilities include screening for medication-related problems such as drug-drug, drug-allergy, drug-food, drug-disease, and drug-laboratory interactions; identifying opportunities to optimize medication utilization; and supporting formulary management, standardization, and regulatory compliance within the OR setting.

· This position provides leadership and oversight of the dispensing and clinical functions of the OR pharmacy satellite and supports the activities of pharmacy personnel working in the perioperative space.

· The specialist collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to develop intervention strategies, utilization reviews, prospective drug use evaluations, quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives, and evidence-based protocols that support value-based care and standardized treatment regimens.

· The position also participates in hospital and departmental committees relevant to the perioperative and surgical practice areas, contributes to research and scholarly activity, and supports the education, training, and competency assessment of pharmacists, technicians, students, and residents

 

This is a full-time, variable shift position. Shifts are 10 hours, M-F 5:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

· BS Pharmacy or Pharm.D. Degree

· PGY1 and PGY2 residency in area of specialty or related specialty OR PGY1 and 2 years’ practice experience in area of specialty or related specialty

 

Required Certification/Registration:

· California Pharmacist License

· AHA BLS for the health care provider and ACLS certifications required prior to being trained to respond to codes.

· Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) or other nationally accredited certification required within 2 years’ of hire.

 

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:

· Demonstrated clinical expertise in perioperative and operating room, ICU or ED pharmacy practice

· Ability to evaluate medication therapy for appropriateness, safety, and cost-effectiveness

· Ability to collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams

· Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements applicable to perioperative pharmacy services

· Ability to support education, training, and competency assessment of pharmacy staff, students, and residents

Position Pay Range: $82.50-$105.60/hour

Please note that actual pay will be determined based on relevant experience and internal equity within the pay range. Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.
