Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest.

Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista. 

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego’s campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).

Job Description

RN Clinical Mentor – Full Time – Emergency Services
Schedule: 72 hours per 2-week pay period | 12-hour Varied Shifts (including weekends)
Location: Scripps Mercy San Diego (Hillcrest)

This position is eligible for New Hire and Relocation Incentives up to $7K .

Join our Emergency Services Department as a RN Clinical Mentor at our Level I Trauma Center, Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego, located in the heart of Hillcrest. it is the county’s oldest medical center, founded in 1890. Our hospital provides a comprehensive range of services, including 24-hour emergency care, robotic surgery, prenatal services with NICU support, and outpatient rehabilitation.

As RN Clinical Mentor, of this 49 bed Emergency Services Department, you will function primarily as an RN with additional duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Takes responsibility for assigned patients during RN relief periods.
  • Works collaboratively and educationally with other members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Takes responsibility for education and guidance of Registered Nurses regarding the nursing process, critical thinking, accountability for the plan of care and it’s relation to patient outcomes, and communication/collaboration with all team members.
  • Functions as a clinical expert, role model, mentor and resource in a designated practice area.
  • Works collaboratively with the Charge Nurse, Educator and Manager of that area to develop a learning environment for the caregivers, as well as a service, outcome and care oriented environment for the patients.
     
    This is a Full Time, 12 hour Varied Shift, position located at Scripps Mercy San Diego in the community of Hillcrest.

  • Must remain in original hired FTE Status and Shift (if specified in offer letter)

  • Transfers to other locations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may result in forfeiting remaining incentive bonus unless specifically noted in your offer letter.

Required Qualifications:
 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in adult ED
  • Current California RN license
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or the equivalent
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS, ACLS and PALS certification
  • NIHSS Certification within first six months of employment
  • Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • CEN – Certified Emergency Nursing
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in an acute care setting 

Position Pay Range: $57.25-$81.25/hour
