Job Description

This is a benefited, full-time position (80 hours per pay period) working varied 10-hour mid shifts from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The position is located at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

What you’ll do: 

  • Responsible for the cleaning, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical instruments, equipment, and supplies used in procedures for patient care.
  • Cleans and disinfects equipment requiring decontamination or sterilization according to designated principles of asepsis.
  • Responds to immediate requests for sterilization or delivery of sterilized instruments to insure there is no patient exposure to bioburden.
  • Responsible for testing and recording of sterilizer equipment performance to ensure operating within sterility standards.
  • Maintains established control systems for supplies and equipment processed.

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • Completion of college training program for SPD or online study program or completion of formal on the job training program.
  • Knowledge of sterilizers, surgical instrumentation, and medical equipment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or CBSPD Certification (must not be provisional).
    • One year of experience in SPD in lieu of certification acceptable upon hire, OR hired into Scripps Sterile Processing Tech Transition Program, but CRCST or CBSPD Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire

Position Pay Range: $28.88-$39.71/hour

Please note that actual pay will be determined based on relevant experience and internal equity within the pay range. Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.
