The Scripps Sterile Processing Technician Transition Program is a 6-month program that includes course work and hands-on training based on the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) modules. At the end of the program, the trainee will be ready to take the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam. Positions at the end of the program will be full-time positions within the Sterile Processing Department (SPD).
A Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for sterilizing instrumentation and equipment through a series of critical steps. This work ensures that patients avoid infections and that doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals can access the instrumentation and equipment they need immediately.
Responsibilities of a Sterile Processing Technician at Scripps include:
- Cleaning, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical instruments, equipment, and supplies used for patient care
- Cleans and disinfects equipment requiring decontamination or sterilization according to designated principles of asepsis
- Responsible for testing and recording of sterilizer equipment performance to ensure operating within sterility standards
- Maintains established control systems for supplies and equipment processed

- Scripps Green Hospital (internal candidates only)
- Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego (internal candidates only)
- Scripps Systemwide Resource Services/Float Pool (SSRS) (internal and external candidates)
Program Dates: 8/26/2024 – 2/8/2025
Application Period: 5/5/2024 – 5/18/2024
Interview Period: 5/27/2024 – 6/21/2024
Interviews:
- Qualified candidates will receive an invitation to record a Modern Hire On-Demand Video Interview. The link to complete the video interview expires 72 hours from the time the invitation is emailed to the candidate.
- Hiring leaders will review these videos and invite selected candidates to schedule a live, virtual interview during the interview period.
Selected Candidates:
- Trainees are paid a flat hourly rate during the program and are promoted after successful completion of the program and obtainment of CRCST certification.
- The flat rate of pay for trainees in the August 2024 SPD Transition Program will be $23.50/hr.
- New hires/rehires must be available to start no later than 8/12/2024
- Must be available to complete the entire program – class attendance is mandatory
- NOTE: There is no paid time off (PTO) allowed during the program.
Position Pay Range: $23.49-$23.51/hour

Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.
