Job Description

This is a Full-Time (72 hours per pay period) position with a 12-hour NIGHT shift schedule on variable days of the week that includes weekends and holidays.

Position will rotate work caring for L&D, Antepartum, Postpartum, and newborn patients. Located at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas.

We invite you to join our highly engaged team of healthcare professionals as a Registered Nurse Clinical Mentor for our Maternal Child Health team at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas.

The RN Clinical Mentor functions primarily as an RN with additional duties.

  • Take responsibility for assigned patients during RN relief periods.

  • Work collaboratively and educationally with other members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care.

  • Take responsibility for education and guidance of Registered Nurses regarding the nursing process, critical thinking, accountability for the plan of care and its relation to patient outcomes, and communication/collaboration with all team members.

  • Functions as a clinical expert, role model, mentor and resource in a designated practice area.

  • Work collaboratively with the Charge Nurse, Educator and Manager of that area to develop a learning environment for the caregivers, as well as a service, outcome and care oriented environment for the patients.

 Preferred Experience/Specialized Skills/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.

Required Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • At least 1-year recent experience within a Post-Partum AND Labor and Delivery department in an Acute Care hospital environment. 
  • Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate positive behaviors.

Required Certification/Registration:

  • Current CA RN License
  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association
  • Current NRP Certification (AAP Issued 7th or 8th edition)
  • Current Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring Certification (AWHONN OR NCC). 

Required Education/Course(s)/Training:

  • Registered nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing. 

Position Pay Range: $60.91-$88.18/hour

Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.
