Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest.

Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista. 

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego’s campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).

Job Description

This is a Casual/Per-Diem with a 12-hour DAY shift position on variable days including weekends and holidays.

Located at Scripps Mercy San Diego (Hillcrest).

Our nurses have the distinction of working in the longest established hospital and the only Catholic medical center in San Diego.  Supporting excellence in patient and family-centered care, the Medical Acute unit provides exceptional patient service with the “Mercy style of care.”  With the belief that the mind, body, and spirit each play an integral part in the healing process, we care for our patients with that philosophy in mind.

We invite you to join our highly engaged Maternal Child Health team of Registered Nurses who are responsible for providing direct patient care within the scope of his/her practice. 

Patient care includes assessment, planning and implementing a plan of care and evaluating patients’ progress towards expected outcomes.

  • The RN takes primary responsibility for the patients’ care as delivered by the Care Team under his/her supervision.
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care.

Preferred Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:

  • Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring Certification from AWHONN or NCC preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.

 

Required Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • At least 1 year of acute care RN experience within a postpartum unit in an acute care hospital setting.  
  • Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate positive behaviors.

 

Required Certification/Registration:

  • Current CA RN License
  • Current American Heart Association BLS provider Certification
  • NRP Certification  

 

Required Education/Course(s)/Training:

  • Registered nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing.

In order to remain eligible for your retention incentive the following criteria must be met

  • Must remain in original hired FTE Status and Shift (if specified in offer letter)
  • Must remain in original department/specialty
  • Must remain in original Job Title
  • Transfers to other locations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may result in forfeiting remaining incentive bonus unless specifically noted in your offer letter.

Position Pay Range: $58.00-$84.00/hour

In compliance with the California Pay Transparency Act, Scripps Health posts the pay range for all jobs. Please note that actual pay will be determined based on relevant experience and internal equity within the pay range. Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.
