Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest.

Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista. 

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego’s campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).

Job Description

This is a Casual/Per-Diem position with a 12-hour DAY shift, on variable days of the week including holidays and weekends.

Located at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego (Hillcrest).

As a Lactation Consultant you will be responsible for…

·         Provides all needed Lactation management services including outpatient to new parents.

·         Identifies the need for and completing a lactation assessment of patients with lactation problems or concerns.

·         Developing and implementing an evidence-based plan of care and demonstrating the ability to communicate data pertinent to the patient’s health/situation.

·         Demonstrating the necessary skills and knowledge to evaluate patient’s progress, assist the family through the continuum of care and provide appropriate discharge planning.

·         Keeping accurate and complete documentation in medical record on findings and care provided.

·         Working collaboratively with members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care.

·         Demonstrating ability to perform all required competencies.

·         Demonstrating age-specific care as established for area and job title.

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification: 

·         BSN.

·         Experience in Labor and Delivery, Mother-Baby Couplet Care and/or NICU.

 Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills: 

·         Completion of a valid certificated Lactation Program.

·         Excellent interpersonal skills.

·         Must be able to demonstrate positive behavior.

·         Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English.

 Required Certification/Registration: 

·         Current RN license.

·         Current BLS for Health Care Provider from American Heart Association.

·         Current IBCLC Certification OR previous IBCLC Certification with 10 years of clinical lactation experience.

·         Current Advanced NRP (AAP-Issued 7th or 8th edition)

Position Pay Range: $58.00-$84.00/hour

Please note that actual pay will be determined based on relevant experience and internal equity within the pay range. Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.
