Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest.
Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista.
Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego’s campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).

This is a full time position with 8-hour day shifts, generally Monday through Friday located at Mercy San Diego in Hillcrest.

The Scripps Health Specialty Pharmacy provides the highest level of pharmacy services and customized patient care to help our patients manage complex medical conditions. Through our specialty pharmacy program, our team works with our patients’ insurance companies, delivering medications directly to their homes, and check in with patients regularly for ongoing monitoring and support. The Pharmacy Prior Authorization Specialist is responsible for supporting the Scripps medication prior authorization (PA) program within the scope of pharmacy technician licensure. To be successful, the Pharmacy Prior Authorization Specialist will be comfortable working in an office setting at a desk and thrives working independently interviewing patient charts and filling out prior authorization forms.
Experience/Specialized Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Certification/Registration:
- Current Pharmacy Technician License.
- Certification by a National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) required within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum 2 years pharmacy technician experience.
Preferred:
- 2 years of relevant medication prior authorization experience preferred
- At least 1 year of experience with Epic
- Experience with CoverMyMeds
