The Scripps Health Emergency Nursing Transition Program facilitates the transition of RNs and New Grad RNs with varied clinical backgrounds to an advanced beginner Emergency (ED/ER) Nurse.
During the program, trainees are supported as they develop knowledge and skills to care for the challenging and varied population of patients that seek care in the Emergency Department setting. The classroom portion is system-wide. Positions and clinical training are site-based.
The program utilizes four teaching modalities:
- eLearning – Scripps specific modules and modules based on the Emergency Nursing Association core curriculum
- Lectures that generalize the didactic to the bedside
- Hands-on skills and simulation learning
- Clinical orientation with trained preceptors in the Emergency Departments across the system
At the end of the program, trainees will transition to a full-time position on their unit. Additionally, trainees should expect to work the night shift on their unit after the completion of the program unless otherwise specified by the hiring leader.
Program Dates: February 10, 2025 – May 3, 2025
(Program dates will be expanded for New Grad RNs)

- Qualified candidates will receive an invitation to record a Modern Hire On-Demand Video Interview. The link to complete the video interview expires 72 hours from the timestamp on the emailed invitation
- Hiring leaders will review these videos and invite selected candidates to schedule a live interview during the interview period.
Selected Candidates:
- New hires, rehires, and New Grad RNs must be available to start on January 27, 2025
- Must be willing to work night shift after the completion of the program
- Must be available to complete the entire program – class attendance is mandatory
- NOTE: There is no paid time off (PTO) allowed during the program

Position Pay Range:
In compliance with the California Pay Transparency Act, Scripps Health posts the pay range for all jobs. Please note that actual pay will be determined based on relevant experience and internal equity within the pay range. Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state. Requirements
Minimum License/Certification Requirements:
- Current California RN license or Interim Permit
- BLS for Health Care Provider, ACLS, and PALS from the American Heart Association required by start date
- NRP required within 6 months of hire (applicable to Chula Vista employees only)
Minimum Experience/Education/Skills Requirements:
- RNs with 1 year of experience in an acute care (hospital), inpatient setting
- New Grad RNs who have EMT, Paramedic, ED Tech, Corpsman, or Patient Care Assistant (in the ED setting) experience will be considered
- New Grads who have completed a preceptorship in an ED setting will be considered
- New Grads must have graduated from nursing school within the past 12 months at time of application and have 6 months or less of paid RN experience
- Must be able to speak, read, and follow instructions in English
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- BSN preferred
