Living in
San Diego
Our commitment to providing care whenever and wherever it’s needed is evident in our many facilities across San Diego County.
At Scripps, we’re interested in people who are interested in new possibilities.
While San Diego is known for its beaches, incredible weather and proximity to many outdoor activities, we love San Diego for a different reason: the people. We treat approximately one-quarter of the 3.3 million people who live in San Diego County. Scripps has long been at the forefront of cardiovascular care, oncology and orthopedics, among other specialties. As a recognized leader in clinical research, we’re working to bring innovative treatments, technologies and potential cures to our patients. This commitment includes caring for some of the most vulnerable people in San Diego County, often at low to no cost.
The Scripps story begins over a century ago with two strong women on a mission.
Driven by their compassion and pioneering spirit, our founders – Ellen Browning Scripps and Mother Mary Michael Cummings – set out to meet the health care needs of a growing San Diego community. And they did just that.
Today, their legacy lives on in the thousands of Scripps employees and physicians who provide and support excellent care and make our community a healthier place to live. Working together, we proudly carry our tradition of excellence forward for the patients we serve.
Last year, we provided care for more than 2.75 million total patient visits.
Every day, our employees and physicians provide excellent patient care within our five hospital campuses, 29 outpatient centers, 13 walk-in clinics, 4 emergency rooms, 3 urgent care centers and hundreds of affiliated physicians’ offices – as well as within patients’ homes through our home-based care. The larger and more complex Scripps becomes, the more interconnected we become. Our interconnectedness allowed us to respond to COVID-19 with a significant increase in our volume of telemedicine visits, conducting about 3,000 per day.
Scripps collaborates with other health systems, government agencies, businesses, grassroots organizations and others to serve the greatest patient population needs within our community and beyond. Our employees are closely involved in developing and delivering many of the programs we have. In the course of one year, Scripps employees volunteered more than 10,000 hours of their time to help provide charity care, reduced fees, free screenings and various health and wellness education, support programs, disaster response and so much more.
