Our rich history dates back more than 130 years, with Scripps Mercy Hospital founded in 1890 by Mother Mary Michael Cummings and Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla founded in 1924 by Ellen Browning Scripps. Today, Scripps treats more than 700,000 patients annually through the dedication of 3,000 affiliated physicians and more than 15,000 employees. Recognized as a leader in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, Scripps is also at the forefront of clinical research, genomic medicine, wireless health care and graduate medical education.
