This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, located in Torrey Pines.

In addition to bringing the latest treatments to our patients, the knowledge gained from these research studies advances the quality of care for people around the world. The Research Assistant I will join the team at Scripps Green Hospital as a part of the Scripps Health/Scripps Clinic Biorepository and Bioinformatics Core, which is a multifaceted, comprehensive resource for physicians and scientists that provides access to various biological materials for the purposes of conducting research on many diseases and health conditions. 

The general duties of the Research Assistant I includes assisting with multiple aspects of clinical trials ensuring data integrity, positive interactions with potential study subjects, document management, administrative support and evaluation process. Keeps internal data entry systems up-to-date. Provides superior service to principle investigators and research sponsors within scope of responsibilities. May perform medical assistant skills, if certified. May act as phlebotomist, if certified.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Perform and assist in bench lab experiments involving biomechanical, histologic and stem cell research
  • Tissue dissection and harvesting
  • Cell and tissue culture techniques
  • Molecular and biochemical techniques (DNA/RNA Isolation, PCR, ELISA and Western Blotting)
  • Processing and staining routine histologic specimens
  • Immunohistochemical studies and confocal laser microscopy
  • Lab organization, maintaining inventory and day to day consumables, and careful record keeping of laboratory activities.

 

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills

  • 1-2 years experience in a research setting
  • High school diploma
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office software
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong motivator/communicator in a compact clinical team working with aggressive timelines

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with a focus in engineering, bioengineering, biology, physiology, chemistry, or equivalent
  • 2 years research training preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Medical Assistant certificate, CNA, or CA Phlebotomist preferred

Position Pay Range: $26.45-$34.33/hour

In compliance with the California Pay Transparency Act, Scripps Health posts the pay range for all jobs. Please note that actual pay will be determined based on relevant experience and internal equity within the pay range. Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.
