Job Description

This is a Full Time, benefited position as a RN Manager in the Cardiovascular ICU department in Prebys cardiovascular institute in our magnet recognized La Jolla Memorial hospital.  It is a salaried position eligible for the Management Incentive Compensation Plan (MICP) . 

CVICU is a dynamic, fast paced 29 bed ICU that specializes in caring for patients post open heart, cardiogenic shock, ECMO, VADs, cardiac advanced support devices and CRRT. We are seeking an experienced and compassionate nurse manager to lead our high acuity intensive care unit.  This pivotal role involves overseeing daily operations, ensuring exceptional patient care, and fostering a collaborative environment among multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, clinical expertise, and a commitment to continuous improvement in a fast-paced critical care setting. As the manager you will work with a dynamic multidisciplinary cohesive team, align unit goals with hospital strategy and champion innovative care and safety practices. The unit manager places the patients needs, preferences and values at the core of every decision transforming care to a collaborative holistic process to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.

This RN Manager creates and maintains an environment that assures nursing practice reflects established standards of care and practice and a culture that promotes patient safety. Responsible for the daily operations of assigned nursing unit, including creating and managing staffing plans and ensuring appropriate equipment and resources are available to staff to do their job. Ensures appropriate and timely use of bed placement technology and adherence to care processes for bed placement/patient transfer/patient transport/room cleaning and patient discharge. Ensures the safe transition of patients thru the continuum of care to include active participation of nursing staff in planning and coordinating patient care, and direct hand-off to next appropriate level of care. Accountable for meeting operational budgets for assigned department(s).

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • Associate’s degree plus five years applicable clinical experience in critical care, two of which in a leadership role.
  • Requires excellent skills in communication, problem-solving, team development, planning and follow-through.
  • Ability to exercise the authority and responsibility for assigned services based on the scope of the organization and complexity of patient care.
  • Graduate of an accredited program 

Required Certification/Registration:

  • Maintains current California RN license.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS and ACLS certification
  • All competencies/certifications required of the charge RN on the unit. 

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive CVICU experience is strongly preferred
  • Certification in area of specialty preferred 

Position Pay Range: $73.57-$106.89/hour

Please note that actual pay will be determined based on relevant experience and internal equity within the pay range. Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.
