Job Description
This is a full time position with evening shifts, 4pm -12:30am located at the histology lab on the campus of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.
The Lead Histotech is responsible for the daily handling of samples submitted for H&E and special stains as well as area operations management. This includes: stain protocol optimization and validations, control tissue inventory and stain verification, and daily QA. Demonstrates proficiency with cutting paraffin blocks. Responsible for reagent and tissue control inventory. This includes researching and identification of key tissue components within surgical cases, embedding tissues, staining verification for intended use, and documentation for use as controls. Works closely with Pathologists on staining protocols and to ensure best practices in the Histology Laboratory. Assists with other departmental duties as needed including training of new personnel. Serves as a liaison for the laboratory and interacts with physicians and customers to provide a positive outcome. Performs all job duties in a timely manner while ensuring performance and safety standards are met. Documents activities and results consistently, thoroughly, and legibly.
Required Certification/Registration:
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in a Science field. High volume, Clinical Histology Lab experience preferred. Experience using the Sakura Prisma and Agilent Artisan LinkPro or other staining platforms. Use of LIS (AP Beaker preferred). HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) preferred
