Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas’ campus includes Scripps Clinic Encinitas and an outpatient imaging center. We’re home to notable specialty programs including a 24-hour emergency room, accredited stroke care, physical rehabilitation services (including a brain injury day treatment program), our Baby Friendly birthing pavilion and a Level II neonatal intensive care unit.

Job Description

This is a full-time, benefit eligible position located at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas. This position has a varied shift, typically Monday-Friday from 7am/8am to 3pm/4pm; however there are times where the tech comes in for a night shift to do a fire drill/air handler inspection. 

The Safety Tech – Environmental serves as an internal resource on environmental-safety-related matters. Assists Environmental Safety Officer in the maintenance of systems and programs to assure a comprehensive Workplace Safety and Environment of Care management program as outlined in the standards found within The Joint Commission (TJC) and other regulatory guidelines regarding environmental safety aspects related to healthcare settings within the State of California. Serves as a member of the site Environmental Health & Safety Committee and Emergency Management Committee. Educates staff on safe working practices and safety-related issues. The Safety Technician also serves as the assistant to the Safety Officer. With oversite by the Safety Officer, the Safety Technician’s primary functions include scheduling, facilitating, assessing, and documenting Fire Drills, Environmental Tours, and construction related ICRA.

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • 3 or more years’ experience in a clinical environment and/or acute care healthcare setting in an environmental safety program position and/or support role within the environmental safety community.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of safety, environmental regulations, hazardous material management and communication.
  • Must have strong clerical skills.
  • If employee is required to drive a company vehicle as part of their duties an active CA Driver’s license would be required.

Required Certification/Registration:

  • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) or within 1 year.

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:

  • Knowledge of healthcare construction safety and associated standards, including but not limited to TJC Standards, NFPA, OSHA (Cal-OSHA), occupational health and infection control.

Position Pay Range: $29.42-$42.29/hour
