Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla has been providing quality clinical and surgical services since 1924. An intensive care unit, cancer care, orthopedic services, as well as women’s health care, including OB-GYN and labor and delivery services, are just a portion of what Scripps Memorial has to offer. This nationally recognized Southern California hospital also provides a Level II Trauma center and 24-hour emergency services.  As a designated Magnet Hospital, Scripps Memorial was the first San Diego hospital honored by the American Nursing Association for delivering excellence in patient care.

The Medical Oncology unit prides itself on offering excellence in patient care.  As a Model Care and designated training unit, you will have the opportunity to positively impact new nurses and be part of fostering new grads to be successful. 

As Clinical Coach, you will demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changes in nursing practice, standards of care, and dynamic situations.

Relief charge nurse, clinical coach and preceptor for new graduate nurses during an intensive 40 week program, demonstrates clinical knowledge and technical expertise.

Promote clinical reasoning, including decision making, critical thinking, and global grasp of the situation.  Demonstrate ability to problem-solve and utilize tact and understanding when dealing with patients, team members, members of other disciplines.

Be involved in unit committees: monthly skin rounds, unit practice council, new grad pinning ceremonies, and clinical coach meetings.

Assess patients, identifies needs, and develops care plans accordingly.

Educate patients and families spanning from admission to discharge.

Review all patient orders and labs, collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to ensure positive patient outcomes and treatment plans.

Provide complex medical treatments: blood product transfusion, TPN administration, heparin drip calculation and monitoring, central intravenous line care and medication administration.

Be skilled in post-surgical and wound care: chest tubes, JP drains, IR drains, woundVAC, various wound dressings, pain management.

Experience/Specialized Skills: 

·         A minimum of two years bedside nursing required.

·         Previous experience in a preceptor role preferred.

·         Consistently demonstrates advanced skills in each of the following domains. Patient/Family relationship. Compassion.

·         Collaboration with MD/team Interdisciplinary care process.

·         Individualized, comprehensive plan of care.

·         Encourages participation in professional organizations.

·         Shapes others clinical understanding through debriefing and role modeling behavior.

Required Certification/Registration: 

·         National Certification preferred

Required Education/Course(s)/Training: 

·         RN required. AHA BLS.

·         BSN strongly preferred.

Position Pay Range: $59.75-$86.53/hour

Please note that actual pay will be determined based on relevant experience and internal equity within the pay range. Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.
