Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest.
Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista.
Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego’s campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).
Job Description
This is a Part Time (2 – 12 hours shifts per week) RN opportunity, working Night – Varied Shift in our ICU Float Pool at our Mercy Hospitals (San Diego and Chula Vista)

Supporting excellence in patient and family-centered care, the Site Based Float Pool provides critical nursing support to our Intensive Care Units at the Scripps Mercy San Diego and Chula Vista hospitals. As a Critical Care nurse working in the Float Pool at Scripps Health Mercy San Diego and Chula Vista, you’ll join a team of skilled medical professionals who provide superior health services in a caring environment.
We invite you to join our highly engaged team of Registered Nurses in our Intensive Care Units responsible for providing direct patient care within the scope of his/her practice. Patient care includes assessment, planning and implementing a plan of care and evaluating patients’ progress towards expected outcomes. With quality patient and family-centered care in mind, the RN takes primary responsibility for the patients’ care as delivered by the Care Team under his/her supervision. Works collaboratively with other members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care.
This role requires you to float within our Scripps Mercy San Diego and Chula Vista campuses. Floating to Stepdown, DOU and MS/Tele/Trauma will be required.

In order to remain eligible for your retention incentive the following criteria must be met:
- Must remain in original hired FTE Status and Shift (if specified in offer letter)
- Must remain in original department/specialty
- Must remain in original Job Title
- Transfers to other locations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may result in forfeiting remaining incentive bonus unless specifically noted in your offer letter.
Required Qualifications:
- Registered Nursing Degree from an Accredited School of Nursing
- Active California RN license
- American Heart Association BLS and ACLS Healthcare Provider Certifications
- 1 year of recent adult ICU/CCU experience
- Must be willing to float to other units
- Be able to speak, read and following instructions in English
- Have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate positive behaviors
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- Previous DOU/PCU or Stepdown experience
