Founded in 1890 by the Sisters of Mercy, Scripps Mercy Hospital is San Diego’s longest established hospital, the only Catholic medical center and the largest teaching hospital in the region located in the heart of Hillcrest. This limited tenure role is part of a Grant from the California Bridge Program and will work in coordination with the Opioid Stewardship Program. The Substance Abuse Counselor will work to support many units throughout the hospital.
The Substance Abuse Counselor provides substance use counseling services to all levels of care within the program. They will participate in the structure of a multidisciplinary treatment team addressing the chemical dependency needs of patients. The Counselor will facilitate transitions of care to outpatient clinics for Medication Assisted Treatment.
This position is a Full Time, Evening shift role located at Scripps Mercy San Diego, in the Hillcrest area. Some weekend coverage will be required. This Limited tenured position is funded for 18 months.


Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
  • Two years working in the chemical dependency field.
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
  • Certification from a California State Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Services certifying agency under an approved certifying organization and/or Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician (RADT).
  • American Health Association BLS for Healthcare Providers.
