Cardiology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
 
General Description
 
The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant works closely with and is supervised by SCMG cardiologists, and specializes in the care of patients with arrhythmia, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure including the use of temporary and permanent ventricular assist devices. The position requires a current California NP or PA medical license.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Assess, diagnose and create treatment plans for patients with cardiovascular symptoms independently and in collaboration with the cardiologist.
  • Manages acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions, treatments and medications. 
  • Evaluates for and recommends pacemakers, cardioversion procedures and angiograms when appropriate. 
  • Performs history and physical to determine pre-operative cardiology clearance. 
  • Provides peer to peer consultation for primary care providers, hospitalists and emergency room physicians regarding cardiovascular conditions. 
  • Provides procedural follow-up care for patients following coronary angioplasty and stenting; cardioversion; ablation for arrhythmia; CABG and valve replacement and Left Ventricular Assist Devices.
  
Practice Setting
 
  • Outpatient care of cardiology patients with general cardiac diagnoses.
