As part of the Scripps Health pharmacy team, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians provide a broad range of clinical services at our sites and work collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other health care team members to deliver high-quality, efficient services to patients and staff. With our prized Swisslog BoxPicker and tube system, our pharmacy team at La Jolla takes pride in maintaining accuracy, efficiency and timely services while processing 2500-3000 inpatient prescriptions per day.

The Pharmacy Intern reports to the Pharmacy Operations Supervisor and works under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients. Other duties include purchasing and inventory control, distribution of controlled substances, automated cabinet replenishment, quality control and monitoring, order entry and dispensing, sterile products compounding, unit dose re-packaging, and special projects as required. Alerts the pharmacist of any drug-related concerns (including computer and telephone messages), inputs credits and charges for inpatients and outpatients. Facilitates teamwork and good interdepartmental relationships. Collaborates with other health care disciplines and supports the needs of patients and families. Maintains confidentiality of patient, staff, department and hospital information. Participates in continuous quality improvement. Demonstrates ability to perform competencies as outlined in Pharmacy's Competency Assessment Tool. Demonstrates appropriate age-specific patient care as established for environment and job title.

This is a casual (per diem) position with varied shifts, primarily on weekends with opportunity to pick up additional shifts for more opportunities to learn. This schedule is ideal for the student who can balance a work schedule while completing their PharmD degree.

Job Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in accredited School of Pharmacy pursuing a Pharm.D. degree
  • California Intern Pharmacist License
  • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate work towards a BA or BS degree

  • Completion of undergraduate degree
