Scripps Mercy Hospital located in Chula Vista is a close-knit team who continues to provide families with exceptional medical care. As a Patient Service Specialist you will be supporting our Emergency Department in our Chula Vista Hospital. This role is essential in interacting with patients, payers and providers to gather necessary information for accurate registration and checking in and checking out patients.

  • Interacting with patients and providers to gather information for accurate registration. Assigning of Medical Record Number, appointment scheduling, point of service payment collection, document collection and check-out functions.
  • Responding to customer billing and payment inquires.
  • Effectively managing the check-in and check-out process, which includes identification verification; confirming demographic and insurance information; ensuring appropriate forms are provided, signed and witnessed at the time of the patient visit and accurately preparing end of day reporting or payment reconciliation.
  • Assist patients with HPE eligibility, and discussing payment arrangement options
  • Escalating billing inquiries as needed.
  • Entering appropriate insurance, performing Key User duties with minimal errors.
  • Initiating and validating referrals/authorizations.
  • Having a proactive approach to customer service by listening to the patient, taking ownership of solutions and is able to identify the need to involve leadership in order to resolve concerns.
This is a Casual position where you will be covering for employees who are out on PTO, and LOA. Must be able to work both weekdays and weekends as well as day/night shifts.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications: 
 
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of computer applications, excellent mathematical skills and ability to handle monies.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; innovative with ability to identify and solve problems.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • 2 years of experience in customer service or healthcare/medical office environment preferred.
  • Previous EPIC experience preferred
  • Able to adapt, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, commercial and government health insurance and billing guidelines, ACA requirements, understanding of DRG's, Medical ICD9/ICD10 codes and CPT/HCPC Codes and Modifiers.
