Our doctors are the "go-to" experts for the North County community. Our outpatient practice provides preventive health screenings and radiology services.

This Patient Service Representative would work within our Imaging Departments such as Mammography, CT and MRI. They are responsible for providing a high quality patient experience by checking in patients for appointments, collecting patients prior images and following up with our patients with letters for Mammograms. You'll be on the front line for creating a positive Scripps Health experience. Additional duties of our Patient Service Representatives include:

  • Interacting with patients, payers and providers to gather information for accurate registration including assigning of Medical Record Number, scheduling, referral/authorization, point of service payment collection, document collection and arrival/check-in functions.
  • Responding to customer billing and payment inquires.
  • Managing the patient check-in and check-out process from start to finish, which includes identification verification; confirming demographic and insurance information on every patient; ensuring forms are provided, signed and witnessed at the time of the patient visit; collecting patient payment responsibility and accurately preparing end of day reporting or payment reconciliation
  • Escalating billing inquiries as needed.
  • Accurately scheduling patient appointments. Successful scheduling includes, but not limited to, documentation and routing of messages, scheduling and confirming appointments, entering insurance, performing Key User duties with minimal errors.
  • May be responsible for initiating and validating referrals/authorizations.
  • Displays a proactive approach to customer service by listening to the patient, taking ownership of solutions and is able to accurately identify the need to involve leadership in order to resolve concerns.
This position is a Part Time, Non-benefitted position (approx. 32 hours per pay period) that will work mainly Monday through Friday shifts, however, will be expected to rotate weekend shifts. This position is located at our Scripps Coastal Medical Center in Vista.

Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of computer applications.
  • Accurate mathematical skills and ability to handle monies.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; innovative with ability to identify and solve problems.
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
  • 1 or more years of experience customer service or healthcare/medical office environment preferred.
  • Able to adapt, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, commercial and government health insurance and billing guidelines, ACA requirements, understanding of DRG's, Medical ICD9/ICD10 codes and CPT/HCPC Codes and Modifiers.
