Cardiac Nurse Practitioner at Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine
 
General Description
 
The Cardiac Nurse Practitioner specializes in Cardiology and Lipidology. Our patients are referred to us from cardiologists, internist, neurologist, endocrinologists, and nephrologists. They are referred to us as they are intolerant to many medications and supplements. These patients are very challenging with cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, along with multiple co-morbities.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Performs the majority of all new patient consults.
  • Assessed medical history, past medical history, family history, and current risk factors.
  • Evaluates cardiac testing.
  • Performs assessment of acute patients with angina. Performs coordination for immediate cardiac catherazation.
  • Performs assessment of patients with chronic angina. Orders and evaluates cardiac tests and laboratory tests. Follows future management of patient.
  • Performs assessment of new onset atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. Orders and evaluates appropriate tests. Performs coordination of cardioversion.
  • Manages patients with coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, hypertrophic obstruction cardiomyopathy, myopathy, vavular heart disease, arrhythmia, supraventricular tachycardia, proximal tachycardia.
  • Manages uncontrolled hyperlipidemia, hypertriglycemia, dyslipidemia with patients intolerant to traditional lipid management including statins, fibrates, bile acid sequestrants, cholesterol absorption inhibitors, or nicotinic acid derivatives.
  • Orders, evaluates, and manages all laboratory tests.
  • Orders, evaluates, manages cardiac testing, including EKG, max treadmill, myocardial perfusion. PET scan, echocardiogram, caridiobeeper, holter monitor.
  • Writes medication orders and prescribes medications on all patients
  • Provides education on nutrition, exercise, lifestyle choices, medications, and supplements.
  • Participates in conference and continuing education.
