The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) will work in the chemistry and microbiology departments, joining a knowledgeable team of skilled, dedicated and caring professionals at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, serving the growing communities of San Diego’s coastal North County since 1978. The team thrives in a fast-paced environment and prides itself in its efficiency and teamwork. To be successful, the MLT will be proactive, resourceful and reliable, as well as have hospital experience.

The MLT is responsible to the Laboratory Manager for ensuring his/her area of responsibility meets licensure/inspection requirements at all times, that all quality control is performed and documented according to policy and procedure, and that staff is properly trained. Duties include clerical tasks(including order processing, answering telephones and report/result generation and distribution), specimen collection, specimen processing, and specimen testing using manual techniques and automated instrumentation. Contributes to co-worker performance evaluation and progressive discipline process as requested.

This is a part time position (40 hours per two-week pay period), with evening shifts, 1:30pm-10pm, including every third weekend. The first few weeks will consist of training during the day shift.

Job Requirements

  • Understanding of medical terminology, specimen collection, processing and testing techniques
  • Current California Medical Laboratory Technician license

  • Experience in a clinical laboratory preferred
  • Associate Science from an accredited university
