Join a winning team supporting the Cardiology department as a Lead, Patient Service. The Lead position is to help support Genral Cardiology which includes assisting both physicians, the clerical staff and the operations supervisor. This Lead position will help support, lead and mentor a team of Patient Service Representatives that serve our patients. Together, you’ll bring your expertise, compassion and excellence to all we do. The Lead, Patient Service is responsible for assisting with daily department operations including training, technical support, mentoring and performance management of staff. Performs quality audits and works towards assurance of consistency and standardization of procedures. Responsible for managing departmental resources and keeping abreast of current policies, practices and procedures and provide guidance to staff. Other responsibilities include:

  • Assists in urgent situations requiring immediate decision making. Responsible for assisting/preparing staff schedules and managing coverage arrangements to ensure excellent patient care.
  • Provides department orientation and training. Provides feedback for consideration on staff annual performance evaluations, as well as input to leadership regarding job performance, improvement and engagement.
  • Assists in new employee hiring and timekeeping editing. Responsible for managing workflows and ensuring benchmarks are met and end of day reconciliation is accurate. Leads performance improvement projects and maintains department productivity reports.
  • Acts as the department manager/supervisor in their absence. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Engages in patient Check-in, Check-out, scheduling, billing coordination. Communications with customers including clinical and non-clinical staff, physicians and leadership to assist in managing department operations. Provides appropriate resolution to patient service recovery.
This is a Full Time position with a primary location in La Jolla. The work schedule for this role is Monday through Friday, 8am – 5pm.

Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
  • One year of Customer/Patient Service experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of computer applications, excellent mathematical skills and ability to handle monies.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; innovative with ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Able to adapt, prioritize and meet deadlines


Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
  • Two years of Customer/Patient Service experience in a healthcare.
  • Experience in Patient Registration and Scheduling.
  • Previous training experience and leadership skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of Cardiology and Cardiac related tests and/or procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, commercial and government health insurance and billing guidelines, ACA requirements, understanding of DRG's, Medical ICD9/ICD10 codes and CPT/HCPC Codes and Modifiers.
