The Lead Cytotechnologist is a role model for the Cytology team of ten. The Lead will be accountable for training both Cytology Prep Techs and Cytotechnologists. The Lead Cytotechnologist is responsible for all the regulatory preparation, documentation and interface with the inspectors at the time of inspection as well as writing and updating all Cytology Standard Operating Procedures. The Lead Cytotechnologist also actively works with the Information Systems team on the EPIC Beaker Anatomic Pathology build. As the face of the department, the Lead will collaborate and engage with other clinicians and nurses to provide excellent customer service.

The Lead Cytotechnologist assists the Manager in the technical and personnel management of the cytopathology laboratory and is responsible for the maintenance of the Quality Assurance Program, and the duties of a Cytotechnologist. The Lead Cytotechnologist is required to demonstrate behaviors that proactively contribute to reaching team goals of cost-effective, high quality patient care services through leadership, technical expertise, and the appropriate utilization of resources.

This is a full time position with day shifts starting anywhere between 6am and 7:30am, including occasional weekend. The Lead Cytotechnologist may need to adjust hours based on training needs.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in biological science from an accredited college preferred or equivalent experience
  • Successful completion of a 12 month CAHEA accredited cytotechnology program
  • Minimum of six years of full-time experience as a working cytotechnologist within the preceding 10 years with gynecologic and non-gynecologic cell samples
  • California license as a Cytotechnologist
