The Health Information Technician reviews, analyzes, and identifies deficiencies on inpatient and selected outpatient health records in accordance with accreditation and medical staff regulations. In your role you will assigns chart deficiencies to appropriate physician(s) or others and enters data into department chart deficiency system. Perform concurrent chart analysis during patient hospitalization. Prepare communications to physicians and others relative to chart deficiencies. Update and maintain the Master Patient Index. It will be your responsibility to understands, maintain and coordinate electronic data into computer or facility database. As well as have the ability to perform competencies as outlined in HIM Competency Assessment tools and demonstrate age-specific care as established for area and job title.  In this role, the Health Information Technician will serve as the face of the HIM department for walk in patients who are looking to obtain their records from Scripps.
This is a Full Time, 8 Hour Day, Monday – Friday position located at our Scripps Business office in Rancho Bernardo.  This candidate will be responsible for interacting with a high volume of walk-in customers at the front desk.

Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
  • High School Diploma. Strong computer knowledge required.
  • Strong oral communication skills and phone contact experience.
  • A strong knowledge and command of the English language is required.
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
  • Electronic Health Record experience.
  • College courses in Health Information Science preferred.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.
