Join our highly-engaged Clinical Research team as a Grants Coordinator. In this role, you will develop and coordinate grant-funded programs in collaboration with scientists, physicians and researchers. Compile and monitor paperwork connected with funding opportunities and programs.



In collaboration with Staffing Supervisor & Project Manager, and team, this position manages all pre-award grant and contract activities within Clinical Research Services. Provides tailored services that meet individual needs of the PIs and other customers. Works closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) to prepare, create and submit grant proposals to funding agencies. Interprets sponsor guidelines and requirements. Prepares budgets based on information from multiple sources, including interpreting research protocols. Prepares and reviews other application materials and documents (face page, biosketches, resources, checklist, other support, et al.) required by funding agency to ensure appropriate content and format. Prepares both paper and electronic grant applications with utmost accuracy. Maintains confidential electronic application information and files in the format defined by Knight Grants Management Team.

Translates program requirements into contract terms in consultation with management and SH contracting offices; reviews contract wording and calculates contract payment rates, budgets, and amounts; with utmost accuracy, prepares all other required contract materials and documents required by central administration and contracting agencies; facilitates and reviews final executed contract and account set-ups. Maintains electronic files in format defined by CRS Team.

This is a full-time (80 hours per pay period), salaried position based in La Jolla.


Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:


  • Masters in Health or Life Sciences.
  • Training with direct applicability to biomedical and health research.
  • Three (3) years experience with coordinating grant submissions in a medical and research institution environment focused on clinical scientific research with medical device, behavioral and/or pharmaceutical interventions.
  • Experience with identifying and follow-through of research and foundation funding opportunities aligned with the strategic goals.
  • Experience with federal, state, philanthropic, and biotech industry grant formats and requirements.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills by work history and proven grant submission track record for multi-PI grant planning, deadline/timeline development, and complete submission package management.
  • Experience in developing and reviewing single site and intramural/extramural consortia budgets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge by work history of site selection, data management, subject recruitment, and all research regulatory documents.
  • Comfortable working under strict timelines, rapid pace, and environment of constant change.
  • Excellent overall written and proof reading in English skills, with experience in a scientific environment preferred.
  • Ability to understand strategic goals and match day to day functions to achieve these goals.
  • Confident and professional demeanor and the ability to represent organization to external clientele and business partners.
  • Ability to develop good interpersonal relationships with clinical/medical professionals.

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:


  • Experience submitting federal grants (i.e. NIH)
