As Director of the Microbiology & Molecular Lab, you will be responsible for the technical operation, expertise and  regulatory compliance of the Clinical Microbiology and Molecular Laboratory. You will oversee the Microbiology/Molecular department and its overall operation. You will serve to consult and educate physicians, pathologists, ID Pharmacists, Infection Control, Medical Directors, and laboratory staff.  You will direct staff in all sections of the department (bacteriology, parasitology, molecular, mycobacteriology, virology and mycology), ensuring American Society of Microbiology (ASM) clinical best practices. You will be responsible for the education/support of supervisors and leads. Play an integral role in communicating effectively to support and educate physicians, pharmacists and Allied Health professionals on ASM clinical standards used in Microbiology. You will ensure best practices are employed for specimen collection/ processing for: bacteriology, mycology, AFB, virology and molecular. You will be responsible as the spokes-person/consultant for the Microbiology Lab in response to: Physician consultation/complaints, Antibiotic Stewardship, Infectious Disease Council, Laboratory Accreditation, and Technical support. You will be responsible for the design and implementation of the latest technologies/testing procedures including lab automation to ensure quality processes.  
This is an ideal role for someone to be the face of the Microbiology department on Systemwide committee meetings requiring Microbiology expertise.
This is a full time Director level position.

Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
  • PhD or CP-boarded MD w/ board certification or eligibility in clinical microbiology/molecular microbiology
Required Certification/Registration:
  • D(AAMM) or D(ABMM) or F(AAM) and F(IDSA for the PhD position or CP-boarded MD; National Registry of Certified Microbiologists (NRCM), or California Laboratory Scientist License.

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
  • Molecular Biology experience preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in a clinical Microbiology Laboratory, with current experience in: daily operation, experience with Micro automation implementation, molecular testing platforms (lab developed test (LDT) or FDA approved).
  • Extensive knowledge of current CLSI guidelines and emerging resistance.
