This is the ideal position for someone to utilize previous fundraising experience and make a difference to the lives of the patients we serve. You will play an integral role in representing Scripps and Scripps Health Foundation before a number of important constituents, including donors, physicians and medical staff, community leaders and volunteers.

As Director, Development you will be a major gift officer and play an essential role in meeting the Foundation's system wide fundraising goal as well supporting specific Scripps Memorial La Jolla needs. You will work with a variety of constituents, including key medical staff, and Scripps and community leaders, in order to steward existing donors and cultivate new donors.

Additionally, you will cultivate and solicit major gifts ($25K ) from individuals for assigned priority projects, centers, programs or campaigns, with/without volunteer assistance as appropriate. Collaborate with Foundation staff to develop and optimize strategies to obtain major gifts for areas of responsibility. Provide stewardship to all major donors within areas of responsibility. Establish regular communication with key individuals from hospitals, centers or programs to identify specific operational, capital and endowment programs requiring private support. Represent Scripps and present institutional case and funding priority specifics to civic groups and other public and private organizations.

This is a Full Time Director position located at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • Completion of at least 2 years of college level coursework plus five years fund-raising experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in major gift fund raising.
  • Knowledge of and experience in all aspects of philanthropic fund development, including working knowledge of rules and regulations governing charitable estate planning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with varied constituencies, including volunteers, physicians, patients and donors.
  • Experience mentoring and supervising staff.
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills, including ability to make presentations.
  • Computer proficiency, including expertise in Word and Excel. Creative, self-starting, results-oriented and committed to working as part of a team enterprise.
  • Ability to organize time effectively and manage a large number of tasks simultaneously. Strong sense of ethical conduct

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
  • Master's Degree.
  • Experience in a medical setting.
