As part of the Scripps Health pharmacy team, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians provide a broad range of clinical services at our sites and work collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other health care team members to deliver high-quality, efficient services to patients and staff. This clinical pharmacist position is on the Step Down Unit / Cardiology Satellite.  The Clinical Pharmacist on this floor has both clinical, rounding, operational and teaching responsibilities. The clinical pharmacist provides pharmaceutical care according to standards established by the Scripps Pharmacies, to assigned group of patients. Reviews and evaluates individual drug orders for appropriateness, safety, and cost. Documents the care provided to patients through the intervention program. Supervises the drug distribution operation: responsible for assuring safe and effective alternatives as appropriate. Routinely communicates with physicians, nurses and patients regarding drug therapy. Provides nursing in-services.  Rounds with the medicine team.  Preceptors Pharmacy Residents and Pharmacy Students. Contributes to the accomplishment of initiatives to improve the cost-effectiveness of drug therapy. Demonstrates ability to perform competencies as outlined in Pharmacy Competency Assessment tools. Demonstrates ability to provide age-specific patient care as established for area and job title.

Works variable shifts, primarily day shifts, but also including evenings, nights and weekends as staffing needs require. 

Job Requirements

Required:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in operations and clinical practice in a hospital setting
  • PGY1 Residency from an Accredited organization
  • Experience precepting students as a primary preceptor
  • Pharm D and Board certification (BCPS)
  • California Pharmacist License
  • AHA BLS for the health care provider and ACLS certifications required prior to being trained to respond to codes
  • Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English

Preferred:
  • Experience precepting pharmacy residents as a primary preceptor
  • Experience rounding with medical teams  
  • Membership in professional organizations
