Job Description

This clinical pharmacist position is on Medicine Satellite.  The Clinical Pharmacist on this floor has both clinical, rounding, operational and teaching responsibilities. The clinical pharmacist provides pharmaceutical care according to standards established by the Scripps Pharmacies, to assigned group of patients. Reviews and evaluates individual drug orders for appropriateness, safety, and cost. Documents the care provided to patients through the intervention program. Supervises the drug distribution operation: responsible for assuring safe and effective alternatives as appropriate. Routinely communicates with physicians, nurses and patients regarding drug therapy. Provides nursing in-services.  Rounds with the medicine team.  Preceptors Pharmacy Residents and Pharmacy Students. Contributes to the accomplishment of initiatives to improve the cost-effectiveness of drug therapy. Demonstrates ability to perform competencies as outlined in Pharmacy Competency Assessment tools. Demonstrates ability to provide age-specific patient care as established for area and job title. Works variable shifts, including evenings, nights and weekends as staffing needs require. 

Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills: Minimum of two years’ experience in operations and clinical practice in a hospital setting. PGY1 Residency from an accredited organization required. Experience precepting students as a primary preceptor required. Pharm D degree required. Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English.

Required Certification/Registration:California Pharmacist License, AHA BLS for the health care provider and ACLS certifications required prior to being trained to respond to codes. Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) certification required.

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification: Hospital pharmacy practice and Clinical pharmacy practice experience is preferred. Experience rounding with medical teams desired. Membership in professional organizations highly preferred.
