As part of the Scripps Health pharmacy team, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians provide a broad range of clinical services at our sites and work collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other health care team members to deliver high-quality, efficient services to patients and staff. The Clinical Pharmacist I is a self-motivated healthcare professional passionate about patient care and serves as a leader for the night shift team.

The Clinical Pharmacist I will be joining a small but mighty night shift team, comprised of one other pharmacist and two pharmacy techs. Together, the team serves a busy Level I Trauma Center and Emergency Department. The Clinical Pharmacist I provides pharmaceutical care according to standards established by Scripps Health Pharmacy, to assigned group of patients. Reviews and evaluates individual drug orders for appropriateness, safety, and cost. Documents the care provided to patients. Supervises the drug distribution operation: responsible for assuring safe and effective alternatives as appropriate. Routinely communicates with physicians, nurses and patients regarding drug therapy. Contributes to the accomplishment of initiatives to improve the cost-effectiveness of drug therapy. Demonstrates ability to provide age-specific patient care as established for area and job title. Works variable shifts, including evenings and weekends as staffing needs require. Demonstrates ability to perform competencies and perform activities as outlined in Pharmacist Authorities policy. Primarily operation focused centrally based; participates in direct patient care as clinical competencies are approved and on approved shifts.

This is a full time position with night shifts, generally 7:30pm-6:15am, Wednesday through Tuesday. The Clinical Pharmacist I will enjoy the flexibility in working 7 days on and 7 days off.

Job Requirements

Required:
  • BS Pharmacy or Pharm.D. Degree
  • California Pharmacist License
  • AHA BLS for the health care provider

Preferred:
  • PGY1 residency or equivalent hospital patient care/Retail experience
  • Hospital pharmacy practice and Clinical pharmacy practice (inpatient or ambulatory) experience
  • ACLS certification
  • Night shift experience
