The Clinical Lab Scientist (Generalist) will be joining an ambitious, collaborative team that values empowerment, education and growth. With a strong work ethic, the team at the Sorrento Mesa Lab handles ten times the volume at our hospital sites, with 1,000 CBCs (complete blood counts) and 3,000 samples per day in chemistry testing alone.

The Clinical Lab Scientist is responsible to the Laboratory Leadership for ensuring his/her area of responsibility meets licensure/inspection requirements at all times, that all quality control is performed, documented according to policy and procedure, and that staff is properly trained. Duties include specimen collection, specimen processing, specimen testing (without supervision), assorted clerical duties, including order processing, answering telephones, and reporting results. Clinical Lab Scientists oversee non licensed personnel in the lab.

This is a full time position (80 hours per two-week pay period) with varied shifts, including weekends.

Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or degree acceptable for California Laboratory Licensure
Required Certification/Registration:
  • CDPH Licensure: MTA (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) Licensed to perform work in all areas of the Clinical Lab
  • Limited Licenses: Limited licenses used in the clinical lab may be hired to work only in their specialty areas:
    • Chemistry: MTC (Chemist)
    • Blood Bank: MTD (Immunohematologist)
    • Microbiology: MTE (Clinical Microbiologist) or PHM (Public Health Microbiologist)
    • Hematology: MTQ (Hematology)
    • Molecular Genetics: MTP (Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist)
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
  • One year equivalent full time in a clinical laboratory
