Philanthropy has been at the heart of our organization since Ellen Browning Scripps founded Scripps Metabolic Clinic in 1924 and Mother Mary Michael Cummings started St. Joseph’s Dispensary in 1890. Since then, through the support of our donors, Scripps Health Foundation has helped us become a premier health care system in the region.
As Senior Director, Gift Planning, you will be responsible for all aspects of the gift planning program, including marketing seminars, luncheons, referrals, letters, direct mail radio and television. You will monitor all legal and financial matters involving planned gifts, including litigation, estate administration, employment of outside legal counsel and financial administrators.
Play an integral role in representing Scripps and presenting institutional funding raising priorities to public and private organizations. This is an ideal position for someone with legal experience on the technical aspects of tax, estate planning, charitable gifts of real estate, wills and trusts, Charitable Remainder Trusts, and Charitable Gift Annuities among other complex options. 
You will collaborate with various members of the financial community, including attorneys, financial planners and CPA's, in addition to working with internal financial and legal colleagues.
This is a Full Time, Senior Director position located in La Jolla.

Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree plus ten years fund-raising or professional equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of current federal (IRS) and state (CA) rules and regulations governing charitable estate planning.
  • Understanding of and ability to apply marketing concepts and techniques, including market research and segmentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with varied constituencies, including volunteers, boards of trustees, physicians, patients and donors.
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills, including ability to make presentations.
  • Computer proficiency, including expertise in Word.
  • Creative, self-starting, results-oriented and committed to working as part of a team enterprise.
  • Ability to organize time effectively and manage a large number of tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong sense of ethical conduct. 

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
  • Master's degree and experience in a medical setting preferred.
  • Capital campaign experience desirable.
  • Law degree highly preferred.
  • Estate planning experience preferred.
