Our cytology team is key in evaluating patient samples to determine next steps in treatment and care.

This position is assigned the duties of technical assistant in the preanalytical testing of cytology samples. Duties will include specimen accessioning, processing gynecologic, non-gynecologic material, staining, and coverslipping of cytology slides, assisting Pathologists with fine needle aspirations, assisting Physicians with Bone Marrow collections, processing and staining, aliquoting specimens for molecular testing, maintenance of slide files, records, and monitoring supplies.

This is a full time position with 8-hour evening shifts, generally 12:30pm  - 9pm, including an on-call weekend for one weekend every two months (eligible for on-call differential) primarily at Scripps Green Hospital with potential to float at La Jolla or Encinitas. Must be available for training for first 3-4 months during morning shifts (anytime between 7am-7pm).

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and computer experience
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks
  • Legible penmanship
  • Word processing experience required with a keyboarding speed of 40 WPM
  • Bachelors degree in the biological sciences or 5 years experience in Cytology or equivalent

  • Experience in a pathology laboratory
